Not Another F@cking Whisky Book: A Journey Through Whisky

Why I Wrote It

For years, I’d tell stories while showing people around Scotland's amazing scenery. I talked about the wins, the fails, the near disasters, the characters, and the unbelievable moments that somehow only happen when whisky is involved. Over and over again, guests said the same thing:

“Stick this in a book.”

So I did.

Once I started writing, it turned into something much bigger. It wasn’t just my stories; it became an honest look at what it actually means to be a Whisky Brand Ambassador. The travel, the pressure, the incredible people, the imposter syndrome, the nights that go perfectly, and the nights that end with you wondering how the hell you’re still alive.

It became my way of tipping my hat to the whisky industry I love, the people, the places, and the moments that shaped me.

A Taste of the Chaos (Vegas Says Hello)

If you want a flavour of the book, look no further than the chapter “Vegas Nights: Whisky, Chaos, and Mr. Vegas.” It’s got everything that sums up the tone of the whole thing:

  • The glamour and madness of whisky work

  • The characters you meet in the strangest corners of the world

  • Me trying to pretend I’m a responsible adult

  • The kind of stories no brand handbook prepares you for.

It’s funny, it’s human, and none of it is PR-approved — which is exactly what I wanted the book to be.

The Moment It Got Real

The chapter that changed everything for me was “Barrel Confessions.” Writing that chapter, or batch as I have named them, forced me to stop joking around and dig deeper. I get into the doubts, the mistakes, and the moments where I wondered if I actually belonged in the industry.

Imposter syndrome is a powerful thing, even when you spend your days talking about whisky to packed rooms. But getting that onto that Batch made the whole book feel honest and real. Readers have already told me how much that chapter hit home.

Who the Book Is For

Short answer: anyone who enjoys a good story.

Long answer:

  • Whisky geeks will spot the industry nods.

  • Newcomers won’t get lost in technical chat.

  • People who don’t even drink whisky have already read it and loved it.

  • If you’ve ever worked in hospitality or travelled for work, you’ll recognise some things too.

Think of it like a good comedy film: a feel-good ride with heart, humour, and the odd near-disaster.

And Yes, People Have Already Read It in a Day

Which is both flattering and mildly terrifying. But that’s exactly how I want people to experience it: laughing, nodding, pouring a dram, messaging a mate saying, “you’ve got to read this,” and not wanting to put it down.

The Stories Behind the Book

The book was born from the stories I tell on CopperCairn tours. These are the tales shared while travelling, in distillery warehouses, at hotel bars, and muddy car parks after a long day on the whisky trail.

So yes, the book is full of gems. But don’t worry, I’ve saved some of the stories for when you’re actually here with me on a tour. Some things are far too spicy for print.

If you want the director’s cut, the behind-the-scenes chaos, or the stories I absolutely could not publish, well, you know where to find me.

A Final Thank You

To everyone who’s ever booked CopperCairn and said, “Mitch, you should write a book,” you’re the reason it exists. This whole experience has been incredible, and I’ve genuinely loved every mad, messy, rewarding second of it.

Slàinte,

Mitch
